Snails are unpretentious creatures in food. Their diet consists of vegetables, fruits, herbs, some types of cereals, as well as special protein products and calcium.
If you brought a clam as a pet, sometimes you can pamper it with a tasty but healthy meal. However, do this infrequently so that snails don`t give up the main diet.

Snails are attracted by juicy sweet vegetables and fruits. Favorite delicacy — cucumbers, bananas, watermelon, berries. However, each individual has its own preferences, so your pet can eat cabbage or beets with pleasure.

To provide the body of the mollusk with the necessary trace elements and give pleasure, you can prepare a mixture of homemade products.
Look of such an unusual dish will appeal to children who are happy to take part in a simple cooking process. Oatmeal is ground into flour, adding gruel from fruits or vegetables. Plasticine will be different colors depending on the second ingredient:
- a blackberry will make it blue;
- orange — carrots, pumpkins;
- red — strawberries, tomato;
- violet — currants;
- yellow — pear, banana.
After mixing, the plasticine is left in the refrigerator for 2-3 hours, so that the mass swells.
Products for cooking:
- ground cereal mixture steamed in hot water (50 ml of water per 100 g. Mixture);
- chopped greens or vegetables (1-2 tablespoons);
- gammarus or daphnia (half a teaspoon).
All ingredients must be mixed and dried in the microwave or oven for 15-20 minutes.
To prepare a delicious jam, you will need 50 gr. crushed berries, gammarus (10-12 pieces), eggshell or food chalk (1 tsp). All products are mixed and the snail dessert is ready!
Calcium and its role for shellfish
Calcium is a vital trace element for gastropods. The health of the snail depends on it, since this substance affects the strength of the shell. With a lack of calcium, the shell becomes soft and brittle.
One of the main signs of a deficiency is that the snail gnaws at its shell or attacks another individual.
Sources of calcium for shellfish:
- food chalk;
- shell rock;
Important! The eggshell must be moist and thoroughly washed!
Other products can be bought at any pet store. Often on sale are calcium stones. A snail nibbles them as needed.
You can cook a special bait yourself. To do this, take oatmeal, wheat or other bran, egg shells, feed chalk, a little shell rock and gammarus. All this needs to be ground on a coffee grinder and stored in a cool, dry place, periodically sprinkling a mixture of food for the pet.
